Ron
Can you post a picture of the spot? If it's tanned i don't think stop-rot will help much. I think the biggest mistake most begginers make is not let the hides salt dry completely, 2 weeks minimum, Then rehydrate with a bacteriacide then pickle shave , nuetralize then apply the tan, I don't have to deal with all that, I flesh then put in my auto- tanner then shave and put back in with the tanning oil, Take out shave again, then i prep tumble and mount, I have tanned about 1000 capes and life size animals and not one lost to slippage, If your serious about becoming a full time taxidermist i would check out the auto tanner. You can pick up a used one fairly cheap $600 on taxinet, The best part is you don't have to worry whether or not your cape will slip ;)

No problem Ron
Another thing you can do to speed up the drying process is salt over night, shake off salt and rub in a mix of salt and aluminumsulphate it will dry in a couple days ;)

Thanks Steve,
Are you talking about the one I have tanned or the next one?Where do I get the aluminumsulphate?I was also wondering how hard is it to auto tan or should I say how long does it take to learn it.
Thanks alot Steve,I really appreciate the help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ron

P.S.: I am just a person to get things perfect because I want it to last for myself and my friends I do this for,it brings up the good days.I want it to look as real as possible.

Your welcome Ron
Thats what this forum is for. The aluminumsulphte you can get at the grocery store (alum) same stuff you use for making pickles, I buy mine 1000 lbs at a time, It's the main ingredient in my tannig crystals. Using an auto tanner is the easiest way to tan you can find, I think thats why alot of people will say it's a gimick. Trust me it's not.
You should join your states association taxidermy that is , and attend the conventions, You can learn more in a couple days than you can in years of trial and error, Next week Brian and i will be at the Michigan show in Grand Rapids , On friday we are particapating in a hands on seminar, We will be actualy mounting deer with instruction from 2 world champion taxidermist giving us pointers. How awesome is that!

THANKS ALOT STEVE

No salt won't help at this point, It may be isolated to that spot, Just handle with care, Don't over groom the area

as you can read from some of my previouse post...I also has some hair slippage. It looks like the most common method most of us are using is to flesh, split ears, eyes, nose, and lips...then salt...ive been using five pounds per hide...they are holding up nice...instead of rehydrating in plain water...I recommend PreTan 110 wich you can get from Knoblochs website along with pound of salt per gallon and Bascal S...That stuff rehyrates but closes up the hair folicles so the hair will not slip...then Ive been using liqua tan...sit over night....rub in excess...then stretch a little bit...The pretan saved my two capes I had hair slippage...
