I bought a few vintage deer mounts...All three of them were aged and the hair very light almost a rust color...the black markings were a dirty brown color. I replaced the wax and used apoxie sculpt, did the eye work. and replaced the bumps on the nose with mod podge.
I used your methods to paint the mounts. My question is I have been noticing that nearly every mount has different black markings, depending on the deer, and what type of form. Is this true or is this just bad practice by a taxidermist thinking they know how to paint.
I have attached a quick photo of two of the mounts I touched up. They look pretty good and I let the forum be the judge of that, but you can see that one deer is larger than the other and its nose markings (which I followed from the way the deers hair was) are very different.
Thanks guys...feedback and tips muchly appreciated...I have another that im mounting completely starting in the am...
